Landlord From Redhill Fined

A landlord who left tenants in “cold, damp and filthy conditions” at bedsits in Redhill has been convicted.

Reports say the house on Ladbroke Road had “crumbling plaster and a mouldy ceiling” and was without hot water or adequate fire exits.

The tenants were largely vulnerable people with limited housing options.

The landlord, Murtha Kehoe, has been fined almost £12,000.

Airline Fined For Illegal Dog

An airline has been fined after flying a dog into Gatwick Airport without authorisation.

WOW Air pleaded guilty to two charges in relation to the incident at the end of May last year.

The dog travelled in the cabin as an assistance dog, but didn’t have the correct paperwork or been treated for tapeworm.

The airline has had two previous warnings.

The Iceland-based company had to pay nearly £1500.

Man Arrested For A Death In Lingfield

A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal collision in Lingfield.

The 49 year old is being held on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.

He’s also under suspicion of causing death by careless driving while under the influence and not stopping at scene.

A cyclist died following the incident on Sunday evening on Lingfield Common Road.

Local Women’s Refuge To Appear On Channel 4 Documentary

A local women’s refuge will be featured in a Channel 4 documentary tomorrow.  

The Channel 4 Dispatches programme has been filming for the last year at Reigate and Banstead Women’s Aid; a refuge for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.  “Safe At Last: Inside A Women’s Refuge” will be shown on Channel 4 tomorrow at 10 pm. The programme is narrated by Dame Julie Walters and follows the stories of women and children from when they first arrive at the local refuge to when they leave.  

It also highlights the funding issues faced by the refuge. There is more information on how to donate to the cause on RBWA.org.uk .

Football Update

In League 2, Crawley Town drew 1-1 at home to Macclesfield on Saturday.  Lewis Young scored his first goal of the season, equalising in the 84th minute.

It was a huge game for Merstham in their Bostik Premier Division match away to Tonbridge Angels.  Merstham won 1-0 and move up to third place in the table.

Horsham move up to second place in the Bostik South East Division, after winning 3-0 away to Whitstable.  East Grinstead won 2-1 at home to Hastings United, and Three Bridges lost 5-1 at home to Herne Bay.

South Park lost 4-0 in their Bostik South Central Division match against Hanwell Town.

In the Combined Counties Premier Division, Horley Town won 5-0 at home to Hanworth Villa. And it was three defeats in a row for Redhill who lost 2-1 at home to Badshot Lea.
